Why convert Word to PDF?
A Word document can look different on every computer: missing fonts, a different Word version or Google Docs can shift lines, tables and page breaks. A PDF freezes the layout, so everyone sees exactly what you see.
Job applications, invoices, contracts and school assignments usually have to be submitted as PDF. It also prevents accidental edits and hides tracked changes and comments.
PDF opens on any phone or computer without Word, and it prints at exactly the page size you designed.
Word vs PDF
DOCX is a working format: editable, reflowable and dependent on the fonts and app used to open it. PDF is a final format: every character and image is placed at a fixed position on a fixed page.
Keep the DOCX while you're still editing, and send the PDF when the document is finished.

Is it safe?
Word to PDF is one of the few tools on this site that needs a server, because the conversion software can't run in a browser. Your file is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server in the EU.
The file is converted in memory and deleted as soon as the PDF is sent back to you. Nothing is stored, and the server keeps no access logs of who converted what.
Macros in documents are never run during conversion, and hidden content such as comments isn't added to the PDF unless it's visible in the document.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my fonts and layout be preserved?
Yes, in almost all documents. Common fonts are installed on the server, and fonts embedded in the document are used. If a document relies on a rare font that isn't embedded, a close substitute is used, which can shift line breaks slightly.
Can I convert old .doc files?
Yes. Word 97–2003 .doc files, OpenDocument .odt and .rtf files are converted just like .docx.
Are my documents uploaded?
Yes, this is one of the few tools that needs a server. The file is sent over HTTPS to our server in the EU, converted and deleted immediately. It's never stored, and no access logs are kept.
Do tracked changes and comments appear in the PDF?
The PDF shows the document as it's displayed. Accept or reject tracked changes and delete comments in Word first if you don't want them to be visible.
Can I convert password-protected files?
Not yet. Remove the password in your Office app (File → Info → Protect), save a copy, and convert that copy.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 50 MB, and you can convert several files in one go.
