How to make audio or video louder
Drop your recordings or videos into the box above, or click Choose files. MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV and more work.
Leave Auto on to bring each file to a normal loudness, or choose +6, +10 or +15 dB.
Click Make louder. Audio comes out as MP3; videos stay MP4 videos with louder sound.
Listen, and download the louder files one by one or as a ZIP.
Why boost the volume?
Phones and laptops record quietly when the speaker is far away, and many videos are mixed too low to hear on a phone speaker, even at full volume.
Raising the file itself means it plays loud enough everywhere: on a phone, in a car, in a class or sent on WhatsApp, without anyone having to turn their volume up.
Auto or a fixed boost?
Auto measures how loud the file is (leaving out pauses and silence) and raises it to about the level of music and podcasts, by up to 20 dB. It suits most recordings and leaves files that are already loud alone.
A fixed boost adds the same amount to every file: +6 dB sounds about half again as loud, +10 dB about twice as loud. In both, a limiter holds the loudest moments just under the maximum, so nothing crackles.
Is it safe?
Yes. Volume Booster runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.
Your recordings are made louder in your browser and never uploaded.
Files stay in this tab's memory only until you remove them or close the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will making it louder cause crackling?
No. A limiter turns the loudest moments down just enough to stay under the maximum, so they don't clip. At +15 dB loud passages sound a little more compressed.
Can I make a video louder?
Yes. The sound is raised and the picture is copied as it is, not re-encoded, so it keeps its quality. The result is an MP4.
Does it remove background noise?
No. Everything in the recording gets louder, including hum and hiss. Auto stops at +20 dB so noise isn't pushed too far.
Why did Auto hardly change my file?
It was already about as loud as it can get without distorting. If it still sounds quiet, the recording is probably very dynamic; try +10 dB.
Which formats can I use?
MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC recordings, and MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos. Recordings come out as MP3, videos as MP4.
