Why convert JPG to PNG?
Every time a JPG is edited and saved again, it's re-compressed and loses a little more quality. Converting to PNG first gives you a lossless working copy that stays identical no matter how often you save it.

Is it safe?
Yes. JPG to PNG runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.
The new file is created from the image's pixels only, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location, camera model and capture time is not copied into it.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG, so any compression artifacts already in the JPG remain. What you gain is that no further quality is lost when you edit and save it.
Why is my PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG discards detail your eyes are unlikely to notice. For photos this makes PNGs several times larger, which is normal.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the original background. You can remove it afterwards in an editor, and the PNG will keep the transparency.
Is EXIF data kept?
No. The PNG contains only the image pixels, so camera details and GPS location are removed. Photos are rotated upright according to their EXIF orientation first.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 50 MB, and you can convert up to 25 files at once.
