Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Not for image, PDF, audio or video tools: those convert files inside your browser with built-in browser APIs, Web Workers and WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, PDF to Word and Compress PDF are the exception. They need a server, so those files are sent over HTTPS to our server in the EU, converted and deleted immediately. Those pages say so clearly.

Is it really free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. You can convert up to 500 files at a time, each up to 50 MB.

Which formats are supported?

Images (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, ICO), PDFs to and from images, PDF to Word, Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, audio (MP3, WAV, M4A) and video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, GIF).

Why is converting in the browser faster?

There's no upload of your originals, no download of the results and no queue on a shared server. Conversion starts the moment you click and usually takes well under a second per image.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. All tools work in current versions of Safari on iPhone and iPad and Chrome on Android. On iOS, images larger than about 16 megapixels are scaled down slightly because Safari limits how large an image a web page can process.
