How to split a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box above, or click Choose files.

  2. Tap the pages you want in the new PDF. To select several at once, drag across them, or on a phone slide your finger sideways over them.

  3. Or choose Each page to get every page as its own PDF, or Ranges and type them, like 1-3, 5, 8-. The 8- means page 8 to the end.

  4. Click Split PDF and download the result. Several PDFs come together in a ZIP.

Why split a PDF?

Scanned documents often arrive as one long PDF: a contract with its annexes, a whole semester of lecture notes, or every bank statement of the year. Splitting gives each part its own file, so you can send only what's needed.

Upload forms often have a size limit or ask for one document per field. Taking out the few pages a form needs is quicker than sending the whole file, and it doesn't share pages the recipient shouldn't see.

Most online PDF splitters upload your file to their server. Here the pages are copied in your browser, which matters for IDs, payslips and medical records.

Each page, ranges, or pick pages

Pick pages shows a preview of every page: tap the ones you want and they go into a single new PDF. Typing the pages instead, like 3, 1, 2, also lets you reorder them. Each page gives one PDF per page, named with its page number and downloaded together as a ZIP. Ranges gives one PDF per range you type: 1-3, 4-10 gives two files.

Pages are copied exactly: text stays selectable, and images and fonts aren't re-compressed. Fonts and images a page shares with others are copied into each new PDF, so the parts can add up to more than the original.

Is it safe?

Yes. Split PDF runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.

The PDF is read and split on your device with pdf-lib, an open-source PDF library. It's never uploaded, and nothing inside it is run.

Files stay in this tab's memory only until you remove them or close the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I write the pages?

Page numbers and ranges separated by commas: 2 is page 2, 4-7 is pages 4 to 7, and 9- is page 9 to the last page. Pages count from 1, as in your PDF viewer.

How do I delete pages from a PDF?

With Pick pages, tap Select all, then tap the pages you want to remove to unselect them. The new PDF you download leaves those pages out.

Can I split several PDFs at once?

One at a time, so you can see its pages while you choose. Each PDF can be up to 1 GB.

Does splitting reduce the quality?

No. Pages are copied as they are, without re-compressing images or turning text into pictures.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

Not yet. Remove the protection in your PDF app, or print the file to a new PDF, and split that copy.
