How to make a video vertical
Drop your landscape videos into the box above, or click Choose files. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV work.
Each video shows a 9:16 frame. Play it to check, and drag the frame so the subject stays inside all the way through.
Click Make vertical. Each video becomes a 1080×1920 MP4 on your device.
Download them and post them as Reels, TikToks or Shorts.
Why crop instead of adding bars?
A landscape video posted as is gets black or blurred bars above and below, and fills less than a third of a phone screen. A vertical crop fills the whole screen, which is what these apps are built around.
Cropping works when the action is in one part of the picture, like a person talking or dancing. The frame you place decides what stays.
What changes
The tallest 9:16 part of the picture is kept where you placed the frame, and scaled to 1080×1920. The length and sound stay the same.
The same frame position is used for the whole video, so it suits shots where the subject stays roughly in place. For other sizes, like square or 4:5, pick them in the settings.
Is it safe?
Yes. Make Video Vertical runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.
Videos are cropped by your browser's own media engine. Nothing is uploaded.
Files stay in this tab's memory only until you remove them or close the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a vertical video for Reels and TikTok?
1080×1920 pixels, a 9:16 ratio. That's what this tool makes by default.
Can I choose which part stays in the video?
Yes. Drag the frame on each video, and play it in place to check the subject stays inside.
Can I do several videos at once?
Yes, and photos too: every file comes out at the same size, videos as MP4.
Is the sound kept?
Yes, the whole soundtrack is kept.
What if the subject moves across the picture?
The frame stays in one place for the whole video. Play it and place the frame where the subject spends most of the time, or cut the video into shorter clips with the Video cutter first.
