How to convert MOV to MP3

  1. Drop your MOV files into the box above, or click Choose files. You can add several at once.

  2. Pick a bitrate. 192 kbps sounds transparent to most listeners; 320 kbps is the maximum.

  3. Click Convert to MP3. Files are processed on your device; a few minutes of media usually takes seconds.

  4. Download the MP3 files one by one, or all at once as a ZIP.

Why convert MOV to MP3?

iPhones and Macs record video as MOV. When all you need is the sound (a concert clip, a lecture, a voice recording made with the camera, or the narration of a screen recording), an MP3 is much smaller and plays in any audio app.

iPhone videos are large, often hundreds of megabytes, and uploading them to an online converter takes a long time on mobile data. Here the audio is extracted on your device, straight from the file.

Family videos and meeting recordings are private. They never leave your device.

MOV vs MP3

MOV is Apple's video container, usually holding H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio. MP3 holds audio only, so it's a fraction of the size and plays everywhere.

The audio track is decoded and re-encoded as MP3 at the bitrate you choose.

Is it safe?

Yes. MOV to MP3 runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.

Audio is decoded and encoded by your browser, using its built-in media engine and a WebAssembly MP3 encoder. Recordings, voice memos and interviews never leave your device.

Files stay in this tab's memory only until you remove them or close the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I convert videos straight from my iPhone?

Yes. Open this page on your iPhone, tap Choose files and pick the video from your Photos library. On a computer, AirDrop or copy the video over first.

Does it work with HEVC (High Efficiency) iPhone videos?

Yes. Only the audio track is used and the video is discarded, so it doesn't matter whether the video is H.264 or HEVC, or whether your browser can play it at all.

Can I get the audio from a Mac screen recording?

Yes, if the recording has sound. Screen recordings only contain audio when a microphone or another audio source was on while recording; without one, you'll see that the file has no audio track.

Will the MP3 sound worse than the original?

Converting from one lossy format to another loses a little detail. At 192 kbps or higher, almost nobody can hear the difference. Use 320 kbps if you want the best possible copy.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 500 MB. Files are read from disk in small pieces, so long recordings don't need to fit in memory.
