How to crop an image

  1. Drop a JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image into the box above, or click Choose files.

  2. Drag the frame's corners and edges, or drag inside it to move it. Pick a shape (1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or 9:16) to keep its proportions.

  3. Check the size shown under the image, then click Crop image.

  4. Download the cropped image.

Why crop an image?

Cropping removes what doesn't belong: an edge of a table in a document photo, a stranger in the background, empty sky. The subject fills the picture and the file gets smaller.

Profile pictures, posts, thumbnails and forms often need a set shape. A square for a profile photo, 16:9 for a video thumbnail, 9:16 for a story: cropping to that shape yourself means no app cuts off the wrong part.

Cropping, resizing and compressing

Cropping keeps part of the image at full resolution; nothing is scaled. Resizing keeps the whole image but makes it smaller in pixels, and compressing keeps its size in pixels but makes the file smaller.

Often you'll do all three: crop to the subject, resize to what the site asks for, then compress for a quick upload.

Is it safe?

Yes. Crop Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.

Images are cropped in your browser. Location and camera details (EXIF) aren't copied into the cropped file.

Files stay in this tab's memory only until you remove them or close the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I crop to a square?

Pick 1:1 above the image. The frame keeps a square shape as you drag its corners or move it.

Will the cropped image be lower quality?

No. The kept part stays at its full resolution. PNG and WebP are saved losslessly or at high quality, JPG at 92%.

Can I crop an iPhone (HEIC) photo?

Convert it with HEIC to JPG first, as browsers can't show HEIC images for cropping, then crop the JPG here.

Can I crop several images at once?

One at a time, since each image needs its own frame. For the same change to many images, use Resize image.

Can I crop to exact pixel sizes?

The size of the frame is shown in pixels as you drag. For an exact final size, crop to the right shape here, then set the pixels with Resize image.
