Why convert HEIC to PNG?
PNG is lossless, so the converted photo keeps every pixel of the decoded HEIC. It's the right choice when you plan to edit, retouch or cut out the subject, because saving a PNG again never degrades it.
Design tools, presentation software and some upload forms accept PNG but not HEIC, especially on Windows and Android.
HEIC can store transparency, for example in cut-outs made with the iPhone's Lift Subject feature. PNG keeps that transparency; JPG would fill it with a solid colour.
HEIC vs PNG
HEIC is a compact, lossy format designed for storing photos on Apple devices. PNG is lossless and universally supported, but much larger for photographs, often five to ten times the size of the HEIC.

Is it safe?
Yes. HEIC to PNG runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and converted by your own device using built-in browser technology, so they are never uploaded to a server and nobody else can see them.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a file. No upload requests are made.
Location and camera metadata are not copied into the PNG, and photos are rotated upright before conversion.

HEIC to PNG or HEIC to JPG?
Use PNG for editing, design work or images with transparent areas. Use JPG for sharing and uploading, where the much smaller file size matters more.
Why is the PNG so large?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, while HEIC uses very efficient lossy compression. A 2 MB HEIC photo can easily become a 15 MB PNG. That's expected.
Is transparency preserved?
Yes. If the HEIC has transparent areas, such as a subject lifted from its background on an iPhone, the PNG keeps them.
Does it work in Chrome, Edge and Firefox?
Yes. Safari opens HEIC by itself; other browsers can't, so a HEIC decoder (about 2 MB) is downloaded the first time you convert and runs on your device. Nothing is uploaded either way.
Does converting to PNG improve quality?
No. It preserves the photo exactly as decoded, with no further loss, but it can't add detail that HEIC compression removed.
